The Swiss Alpen Rhine connects the mountains of the Graubünden Region with Lake Constance. Starting out in Constance, you will travel by train towards the Alps and cycle through four countries: Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria and Germany. Impressive highlights are the Via Mala Ravine and the city of Chur. Upon reaching the Rhine Delta you can continue your journey along Lake Constance until you reach Constance once more. This cycling tour along the Alpen Rhine is also suited to those not very used to cycling.

Day 1

Individual arrival in Constance/Kreuzlingen

You will begin your trip in Constance, which is the largest town on Lake Constance, and is still quite Medieval in character to this day. In 1414, the town hosted the only church council ever to take place north of the Alps. A small museum is dedicated to the Czech reformer Jan Hus, who was burnt at the stake here. The symbol of the city is the statue of Imperia, which is a memorial to the prostitutes of the council time. The aquariums of the Sea Life Center are also worth a visit, as is the Archaeological Museum.

Day 2

Constance/Kreuzlingen - Bonaduz, train journey

Today you have a tough decision to make: You can either enjoy the morning in Constance and then take the train to the starting point of your cycling holiday, or you can head off straight after breakfast and enjoy your afternoon where the Vorderrhein and Hinterrhein Rivers join to form the Rhine. A full day train trip passing through Zurich and Andermatt to Bonaduz is also a great experience, as along this route you will have the chance to travel on the legendary Glacier-Express. No matter which option you choose, we will transport your luggage and bicycles which will await your arrival in Bonaduz from midday on.

Day 3

Excursions in the Bonaduz area

The small town lies at the point where the two Rhine rivers converge and both rivers provide spectacular attractions for visitors. The one river with the Viamala-Gorge was used as early as Roman times as a route through the Alps which was well-known for its quality. The other Rhine offers visitor the wildly romantic ruin of Aulta and a gorge which visitors can combine with a visit to the little town of Ilanz. Your travel documents will contain detailed tour suggestions.

Day 4

Bonaduz - Vaduz/Triesenberg, ca. 55 km

Shortly after starting out you will reach the diocesan town of Chur, the gateway to Graubünden, where the old town is worth a visit. You will then continue on northwards alongside the Rhine. A visit to the winegrowing villages of Zizers or Maienfeld, where excellent wines are produced is recommended but is a challenging bicycle ride. Soon you will reach the independent state of Liechtenstein with its capital city of Vaduz, which is towered over by the castle of the same name and is your destination today.
