Located on the northern shore of Lake Constance, with a view across to the garden island of Mainau, and views of Überlingen and the baroque church of Birnau, at the edge of a nature reservation is the Lake Dwelling Museum of Unteruhldingen. Between 1922 and 2002 18 lake dwellings were reconstructed and visitors can step back in time to the Stone Age and Bronze Age (4000-850 BC).
Our forefathers on Lake Constance: How did they live? Why did they build on the water? What did the landscape look like back then? These and many more questions will be answered on a tour around the specially prepared visitor brochure. The lake dwellings which are reconstructed on a scale of 1:1 are the result of archaeological excavations on Lake Constance, which still take place today over and under water and the excavated findings can be marvelled at in the exhibition rooms and in the lake dwellings themselves. Life-size models and a large aquarium with divers describe the actual research.
