This Lower Lake short tour is specially conceived for guests who do not have a lot of free time.  After arrival by 10am at the latest you will begin cycling straightaway. You will explore the western side of Lake Constance and cycle through very attractive landscapes which once fascinated Otto Dix and Hermann Hesse.  The volcanic mountains of the Hegau, Europe’s largest waterfall and numerous medieval villages and towns characterise this tour.  Guests who have further to travel to reach the starting point for the trip can book extra nights for the start or end of the trip so that they can enjoy a stress-free arrival and departure.  This short tour is also suitable for those unused to cycling.

Day 1
Constance

Individual arrival, Constance - Schaffhausen, ca. 50 km

Your cycling tour leads you out of Constance through picturesque Swiss fishing villages. Cycling along the shores of Lake Constance, you will come to Stein am Rhein with its medieval houses adorned with frescoes. On the way to the cantonal capital city of Schaffhausen, you will cross over the Swiss and German borders a number of times. The town is towered over by the Munot Fortress and its former citizens competed with one another in the construction of elaborate oriels.
Overnight stay in Schaffhausen

Day 2
Rhinefall near Schaffhausen

Schaffhausen - Rhinefall - Radolfzell, approx. 55 km

After breakfast you will cycle the short distance to the Rhine Waterfall, the largest waterfall in Europe. You will then continue up along the Rhine back to Stein am Rhein and along the Höri Peninsula, where Otto Dix painted and onto Gaienhofen, where Hermann Hesse lived for a while. Interesting museums pay tribute to the artistic tradition in the Lake Constance region. There will be numerous beautiful views along the route towards the Monastic Island of Reichenau and the volcanic landscape of Hegau. During the course of the day you will be tempted for a swim by a number of perfect bathing spots.

Day 3
Meersburg

Radolfzell - Überlingen - Constance, approx. 45 km, individual return journey home or extension of your stay

Today’s route leads you along the lakeshore to Überlingen with the famous lakeside promenade. You will then continue on past the Pilgrim Church of Birnau and on towards Uhldingen, where you will find a reconstructed lake dwelling settlement. In Meersburg we recommend a visit to the harbour promenade and the ancient, Merovingian castle. From here you will then return by car ferry to Constance. Your Lower Lake and Rhine-falls short tour then comes to a close and you will return home. We would, however, also be more than happy to extend your stay in Constance.
